One of the most significant ones...
in my life is my dear friend, Reina. I met her twenty one years ago when I first started working at Dayton's. I noticed her doing cross stitch which was something I enjoyed doing too. We started talking one day about our common interest. It was the first of many talks.
I enjoyed talking to her. I would sit with during lunch and we'd chat about life. She was so friendly and cheerful. I needed someone like her in my life then. Sarah had died and I was new in my job and really didn't have any friends. She was a warm patch of sunlight in my cold darkness.
We have shared a lot together through the years. She took care of Katie at her daycare and we shared our joys and sorrows of motherhood, children and life. Reina gave me wonderful bits of wisdom and advice that I have cherished. She had practical tips and insights that were invaluable to me. One of the reasons I have such an easy and open relationship with my daughters is because of her. She was loving and open with her kids. It was very evident that her honesty and common sense had a very positive effect on her kids and I emulated that.
Life has given her many challenges. I admire her courage and ability to march straight ahead taking life in stride. There have been so many times that I have gone to her and she knows just what to say. The long deep conversations that we have shared, the tears that we shed, the laughter that has echoed, the smiles and moments of quiet contemplation are all very precious to me.
Creativity is a strong point of hers and she has expressed herself in needlework and sewing. Stunning cross stitch pictures and fabulous gorgeous quilts are just some of the many ways my talented friend exhibits her incredible talents. The incredible patience and determination this woman has is truly amazing. I could not have done all the intricate and involved things that she conquers. I am truly in awe.
As Christmas approaches, it is a shared time of deep sighs and poignant memories for us. We have both experienced great losses during these times. I think of her and say a prayer that her heart is eased and she smiles at the memories of the love passed on.
Reina, my dear friend. You are a treasure to me. You are so precious and I have been so blessed to call you friend. You are such a strength to me. I admire and love you so much. I hold you in my heart and in my prayers always.
