Motorcycles have changed my family's lives...
The first one....when I was in my early teens, my cousin Becky, who was ten, was hit by a motorcycle. She had been to a store and decided to cross the busy highway instead of going under the bridge where she would have avoided the traffic. She was on the crest of a hill and the bike never saw her. She never had a chance.
In a moment of time she turned from a vibrant child into a brain damaged girl who was confined to a wheel chair. My aunt and uncle could have been defeated by this accident but they turned a tragedy into a victory. I watched them face the challenges of taking care of a young girl who was physically and mentally disabled. There weren't a lot of choices available at that time for disabled children and young adults. Instead of giving up they and other like mnded parents formed a new type of group home for the care of the disabled. It was called Homeward Bound and it has made a difference in a multitude of lives. My aunt and uncle became very active in the rights of the disabled. Little did I know that their example and the things I learned from them would be put to use in my own life in the future when my own girls were born with a disability.
The second one...my brother Greg had been drinking one night many years and was riding a motorcycle and not wearing a helmet. He was involved in an accident and seriously injured and we didn't know if he would live or die. He did live but now had a very different life as a result. He had a brain injury and was no longer the man he started out being. His life became a huge challenge for himself and my parents. He has overcome many things and is a wonderful person. All our lives were changed tough.
Two life changing events involving motorcycles and my life. These negative events were turned into positive because of one very key factor and that was because of faith and prayer. My family believes in a personal and powerful God who takes that which was meant to harm and turns it into good. He did this because we all prayed. The prayers of many have brought forth great fruit.
I want to thank my aunt and uncle, Carolyn and Wayne Larson. I have the deepest respect and admiration for you both. I love you very much. Thank you for all the hard work you have done for so many. Thank you for your love and support of me and my family. You have truly been an inspiration and help to me. Your shining example is a beacon in the darkness. You are great people and I love you.
Mom and Dad...you amazing. You have held on to that bedrock of faith and stayed the course. You have taken care of and helped Greg through so much. God has blessed me with two incredible parents who have lived out their faith. When I faced my many challenges, you were there and helped. You walked with me and prayed. You believed and you loved. You have my inspiration and brought me such blessings. Thank you for loving and believing in our God. Thank you for setting such a high standard. The Lord has blessed me because of you and I praise Him for you.
